I am interested in how wildlife move, use habitat, and survive. Specifically, I study the consequences of anthropogenic land use change on habitat selection and survival. To investigate these questions, I have primarily used ducks as a study species. More recently, I have been interested in the application and development of quantitative approaches to model habitat selection and survival.
I am a Research Scientist with the Institute for Wetland and Waterfowl Research of Ducks Unlimited Canada. I study the behavioural and demographic responses of waterfowl to landscape change. My work also involves identifying key knowledge gaps, designing studies, and coordinating research to support conservation activities across the continent.
I was previously a Postdoctoral Fellow developing quantitative models to support caribou conservation in Ontario's Ring of Fire region with Dr. Frances Stewart and Dr. Jennifer Baltzer at Wilfrid Laurier University and Dr. Josie Hughes and team at the National Wildlife Research Centre of Environment and Climate Change Canada. I completed my PhD on the nesting ecology of ducks in the boreal forest of Alberta at the University of Waterloo under the supervision of Dr. Brad Fedy in collaboration with Dr. Stuart Slattery and colleagues at Ducks Unlimited Canada. I completed my MSc at Western University working with Dr. Scott Petrie and colleagues at Long Point Waterfowl and Birds Canada on the nesting and brood ecology of wood ducks at Long Point, Ontario.
Interested in collaborating? Have a paper for me to review? Just want to talk about ducks? Feel free to contact me.
